Classic Backyard Games for Summertime
Looking for some outdoor entertainment this summer? Look no further than these classic games that you can do right in your backyard!
Water Balloon Catch
Nothing stirs memories like traditional summer water balloon games. Start by filling water balloons with a hose or faucet and piling into a bucket. Pair up and begin tossing the balloons back and forth with your partner, moving further and further away with each catch. The last pair standing wins. Make sure to wear some clothes you do not mind getting wet!
H-O-R-S-E
If you enjoy playing basketball, you will love this childhood classic. Whether you are visiting your local park or have a basketball hoop in your driveway, H-O-R-S-E is a great way to get active! You will need at least two players for this game, but the more the merrier. The goal is to miss the least number of baskets possible. If you do miss a shot, you receive a letter H. Then, for every subsequent basket you miss, you receive the letters O, R, S and then E. If you earn all five letters, you are out. The last player standing is the winner!
Capture the Flag
Capture the flag is a staple of childhood summers. Gather up a group of friends and you are ready to play. The game is played in a large field or backyard. Make two teams, create a boundary line between the teams and have each team hide their own flag or similar object on their side of the field. The game itself is very simple, capture the other team’s flag without getting tagged. Once the flag is captured, bring it back to your team’s home base. The first team to make it back to their home base with the opposing team’s flag wins!
