Georgia Southern University Site Visit to Newport Trace

Recently, the Construction Management class from The College of Engineering and Information Technology at Georgia Southern University visited the Newport Trace job site in Statesboro, Georgia. Thirty-five students were given a tour by Fairway Construction employees Randy Yamario, John Mercer, John Speno and Brian Bell. The visit provided an opportunity for the students to ask questions and receive feedback from industry professionals.

During the tour, the students were introduced to jobsite documentation such as field reports, Material Safety Data Sheets, OSHA safety requirements, safety program manuals, daily logs, schedules and other items used to document progress and workplace safety.

Randy led the tour and discussed the multilevel inspection process with compliance to code, city, and EarthCraft requirements. The students were able to watch brick masons lay exterior brick, site contractors establishing roads to grade, subcontractors installing the siding and trim, framing, fire protection suppression system installation, drywall finishing, concrete sidewalks being poured and other trades working on site.

The site visit was a huge success and the construction team was excited to meet with the students and their professor. Fairway Construction looks forward to continue to build a relationship with the Construction Program at Georgia Southern University.
