Quarterly Craft: DIY Holiday Wreaths
As we make our way through the holiday season, there are many festive ways to show your holiday spirit, including sprucing up your home with holiday decorations. One classic holiday decoration that you can craft yourself is a wreath. There are endless ways to decorate your wreath, but we highlighted three ideas from The Spruce Crafts below for inspiration.
Materials:
- Wire wreath form (You can purchase these from your local crafting store.)
- Shatterproof ornaments in various sizes
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Wreath hook
Instructions:
Lay out the wire wreath form and start by gluing your first ornament onto the wreath form. For this first ornament, find a joint on the wreath form where a few wires come together. Place lines of glue on the top of the wires and quickly place the ornament on over the glue. Hold in place to until set. As you glue on your ornaments, begin not only gluing them to the form but also to each other to increase sturdiness.
Once you finish your first base layer of ornaments, glue another layer of smaller ornaments on top. As you are adding ornaments, take care to hide any wire that is showing with smaller ornaments.
Once complete, hang your wreath on a sturdy hook.
Materials:
- Floral craft ring
- Poinsettia stems
- Wire cutters
- Cork ribbon
- Drill (as needed)
- Wreath hook
Instructions:
Snip your poinsettia stems off about an inch and a half below the flower using your wire cutters.
Then, take a look at the stem width compared to your floral craft ring. If the holes are not wide enough, use a drill with a bit matching the width of the poinsettia stem to widen the holes a bit.
Feed your poinsettia stems through the holes in the floral ring and bend down to hold in place.
Repeat these steps to fill every hole in the craft ring with poinsettia stems. Finally, loop the floral ring with a large cork ribbon and hang!
Materials:
- Round peppermints
- Red Hots
- 12-inch papier-mache or wooden letter
- Red ribbon
- Red spray paint
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Wreath hook
Instructions:
Paint your letter and let dry.
Unwrap your peppermints and place them on the letter to determine the layout. Then, use hot glue to glue them into place. After all the peppermints are glued down, glue Red Hots where the peppermints meet.
Cut a piece of ribbon about 20 inches long and glue ends to the backside of the letter. Cut a separate piece of ribbon and tie a bow. Secure this with glue to the top of the ribbon where it meets the wreath hook.
